Historical Agde

While most holiday makers know about the great Cap d’Agde beaches, where they can lounge around the pool or participate in their favorite sports, those visitors that return year on year will also be aware of the large number of impressive events arranged by the local tourist board. Every month there are lots of different cultural, musical, sporting or just unusual events to take part in.

In May of this year the nearby ancient city of Agde presented tourists, over a two day period, with a stunning visual presentation of the 2600 year history of the city. The heritage of Agde is impressive to say the least. With its roots in ancient Greece Agde can show its journey through many changing times. Ancient Rome, the Vikings, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the 18th century, the French Revolution, and much more all have their part to play in this history and was represented over the weekend.

The streets and squares were taken over by over 650 historical presentations taking the viewer from one age to another. All illustrated by drama, song, and dances and even choreographed battles. And if you really wanted to get involved as a visitor you could hire historical costume to wear during the weekend so you could fit right in!

And you certainly won’t go hungry or thirsty. Wine tasting and gourmet foods are served throughout the city at various stalls. The kids will love it too as they discover what camp life was like for the medieval Vikings!

It is events like this that make Cap d’Agde and the surrounding areas, more than just a beach resort. If you like to return home from a holiday with more than just memories of the sea and sand then you should definitely think about booking a Agde hotel.
