The Friends TV Show: Then & Now

As a series, Friends is a definition of the word “successful”. A full blown series that got 10 seasons, an audience that goes as high as 20 million and a well syndicated spin off like “Joey”, Friends Complete series has been topping the list of the best series in history and to make it better, most reviews also gives the series a “kudos”. You might not believe it but the series got few negative reviews on the onset that eventually turns positive as the series went on.

Early reviews

Friends season one was always beingcompared to the comedy hit series Seinfeld. According Tom Feran of the Plain Dealer, the series seems like a Seinfeld but less successful. Anne Hodges of the Houston Chronicle on the other hand tags the show as a Seinfeld wannabe but can never as funny as the other. Chicago Sun Times reviewer Ginny Holbert says Rachel’s character was underdeveloped. USA Today on the other hand critics Le Blanc’s acting as if he is doing too much of the brain dead stuff he’s been doing before the series and on other series he had.

Recent reviews

The thing is, as the series continues to get good ratings, reviews are also getting better. We are not sure though if the ratings went high because of the good reviews. Anyway, one of the reviewers even apologized for calling the series a Seinfeld wannabe and apologized to the writers. Salon.com said the series hit it while Bill Carter of the New York Times said the 8th season was a stunning comeback for the series. Boston Herald on the other hand praises Aniston and Schwimmer for their acting but their character seems to be created out of fans request and not as what the story should run. Still, the series getting a million viewers constantly is what matters.
